Comrade Mohammad Kana'aneh (Abu As'ad), the General Secretary of Abna'a el-Balad movement in our occupied homeland of 1948, was released from prison after 4 1/2 years on May 28, 2008, and welcomed to his home in Arabeh by crowds celebrating his release, carrying the Palestinian flag and shouting national slogans.

Comrade Kana'aneh said, speaking of his experience as a Palestinian prisoner, "I have spent 4 1/2 years in prison and it was a painful experience but our spirits were always high. We are the owners of a cause, we want to live in freedom and dignity. There are those who have been in prison for decades. The issue of prisoners must be on the forefront of our national struggle, including the prisoners of 1948." He called for any exchange to include prisoners from Palestine 48, highlighting that the prisoners are one united group of one Palestinian nation.
