Last Wednesday afternoon, Israel launched a wide-scale attack on the densely-populated Palestinian Gaza Strip. In a scene reminiscent of the start of the December 2008 War on Gaza, in which 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed, Israeli fighter jets struck over 500 targets in the besieged Strip in the course of 48 hours. At least 139 Palestinians have been killed and over 900 wounded in the ongoing assault as air raids continue for a eight consecutive day. Retaliatory rocket fire from Gaza killed five Israelis – one soldier, and three civilians.
Al-Akhbar will continue to post live updates on the situation in Gaza.
