La campagne européenne : « nous allons poursuivre Israël en justice qui agit comme si elle était en état de guerre »
La campagne européenne pour mettre fin au blocus de Gaza, dont le siège est à Bruxelles, a condamné la décision du gouvernement israélien de s’emparer des bateaux de la flotte « liberté » qui se dirige vers Gaza et qui est composée de 8 bateaux et d’arrêter les personnes qui se trouvent à bord et dont le nombre dépasse les 750 personnes, considérant que cette décision représente une escalade qui aura des conséquences.
M. Anouar Gharbi, membre de la campagne et Président de l’association suisse Droit pour Tous, l’un des partis fondateurs de la coalition de la flotte « liberté » a déclaré ce qui suit : « le côté israélien agit comme s’il menait une guerre armée contre une autre armée notamment après que les politiciens aient donné l’ordre aux militaires d’intercepter la flotte « liberté » de faire usage de la force afin de l’empêcher d’arriver à Gaza, et a invité la communauté internationale à agir pour protéger la flotte internationale humanitaire.
En réponse aux nouvelles menaces israéliennes, M. Gharbi a souligné que les personnes solidaires ont exprimé leur ferme intention de résister à toute tentative de piratage de la part des israéliens en insistant sur le fait que tous les scénarios ont été préparés et que des plans ont été mis au point pour mener la résistance.
Le Président de l’association suisse Droit pour Tous a expliqué que le côté israélien sera poursuivi devant les tribunaux européens et suisses en cas de saisie des bateaux et d’arrestation des personnes qui se trouvent à leurs bords tout en indiquant que la Campagne européenne pour mettre fin au blocus de Gaza offrira son aide à ce niveau.
Il a déclaré que parmi les moyens envisagés pour faire face à l’interception de la flotte, l’organisation de manifestations devant les ambassades israéliennes dans les plus grandes capitales européennes en coordination avec les organisations de la société civile qui soutiennent la cause palestinienne ainsi que plusieurs manifestations dans les pays arabes et notamment les pays qui participent dans cette flotte.
Le membre de la campagne européenne a déclaré : « les responsables de la coalition de la flotte « liberté » ont mis au point des plans pour face à un certain nombre de scénarios envisageables et notamment suites aux menaces israéliennes de faire usage de la force pour empêcher la flotte d’accomplir son but humanitaire qui consiste à acheminer plus de dix milles tonnes d’aide aux assiégés de Gaza pour la quatrième année consécutive ».
La flotte « liberté » se compose de huit bateaux : un cargo financé par le Koweït qui lève le drapeau turc et le drapeau koweitien, un cargo financé par l’Algérie, un cargo de financement européens de la suède et de la Grèce, un cargo irlandais appartenant au mouvement « Gaza libre » et quatre bateaux pour transporter des personnes dont le « bateau 8000 » qui fait référence au nombre des prisonniers palestiniens détenus dans les prisons des forces de l’occupation, et le bateau turc de transport de passagers et qui est le plus grand bateau.
La flotte a limité le nombre de participants à 750 personnes de plus de 40 pays bien que des dizaines d’autres personnes avaient soumis une demande pour y participer. Parmi les participants, 44 personnalités officielles, parlementaires, politiques, européennes et arabes, dont 10 parlementaires algériens.
Les bateaux de la flotte transportent aussi plus de dix milles tonnes d’aide médicale et matériaux de construction et de bois, 100 maisons préfabriqués pour aider les dizaines de milliers d’habitants qui ont perdu leur maison lors de l’agression israélienne sur Gaza au début de l’année 2009. Les bateaux transportent aussi 500 chaises électriques pour les handicapés moteurs vue que la dernière guerre a fait plus de 600 handicapés à Gaza.
The European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG): “We will sue Israel, which acts as if it is waging a war”
The European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG), which is based in Brussels, has strongly condemned the Israeli Government’s decision to seize the eight vessels making up the “Freedom Flotilla” that is heading for Gaza Strip and to arrest all the more than 750 supporters onboard. ECESG views the decision as an escalation that will have grave consequences.
Anouar Gharbi, member of the campaign and president of the Swiss Rights for All Association, a member of the Freedom Flotilla coalition, said, “The Israeli party acts as if it is waging a military war against another army, particularly after orders have been issued from the political leadership to the military to intercept the Freedom Flotilla, and use force against it in order to prevent its arrival to the shores of Gaza. He invited the international community to take action to protect the humanitarian international flotilla.
Gharbi, in response to new Israeli threats, stressed that foreign supporters, including European parliamentarians taking part in the flotilla, “have declared their determination to resist any piracy attempt that they may face at the hands of the Israeli occupation, affirming that all scenarios have been taken into account and that plans have been made to confront it.”
The president of the Swiss Rights for All Association pointed out that in case the Israeli side seized the flotilla ships and arrested supporters on their board, it would be taken to European and Swiss courts. According to him, “ECESG will assist in this process.”
He explains that the plans developed to confront an interception of the flotilla include, inter alia, the organization of demonstrations in major European capitals in front of Israeli embassies, in coordination with civil society organizations supporting the Palestinian cause, in addition to a series of protest sit-ins and other actions in many Western countries, particularly those participating in the Freedom Flotilla.
He went on to say that “organizers of the Freedom Flotilla have developed plans of action to use in the light of the scenarios expected to take place, particularly in view of the Israeli threat to use force so as to prevent the flotilla from achieving its humanitarian objective, i.e. the delivery of the more than 10,000 tons of aid to the population of Gaza who have been besieged for the fourth consecutive year.”
The Freedom Flotilla consists of eight ships: a Turkish- and Kuwaiti-flagged cargo ship funded by Kuwait, a cargo ship funded by Algeria, a cargo ship funded by Sweden and Greece and a fourth Irish cargo ship belonging to the “Free Gaza” movement, in addition to 4 passenger ships, including one called Boat 8000, in reference to the number of Palestinian detainees in prisons of the Israeli occupation and the Turkish passenger ship which is the largest.
The flotilla had to accept no more than 750 participants from more than 40 countries although it had received many more applications. Participants will include 44 European and Arab political officials and parliamentarians, including 10 Algerians members of parliament.
Vessels of the flotilla carry more than 10,000 tons of aid material, including medical supplies, building materials, wood, 100 prefabricated houses to help accommodate the tens of thousands of Gaza population whose homes have been destroyed in the Israeli war against Gaza in early 2009. It also carries 500 electric wheelchairs for physically-handicapped persons, given the fact that the last war has caused the incapacitation of some 600 people.
