BETHLEHEM
(Ma’an) -- Palestinian Authority security forces on Monday reached an
agreement to release three Hamas prisoners detained in the West Bank,
security sources told Ma'an
The agreement was reached between PA intelligence services in Bethlehem and the elders of several clans based in Hebron.
The prisoners are from Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus and will be released within the next few days, Hamas informed family members.
More prisoners are expected to be released in the near future, a security source said.
Several protests have taken place recently in Bethlehem and Hebron demanding the release of prisoners arrested for politically motivated reasons.
More than fifty people took part in a protest outside the intelligence headquarters in Bethlehem on Sunday to demand the release of relatives.
Thirteen students at Hebron university have held a sit-in protest for over three weeks, and warned Sunday that they would scale up their demands if the PA does not release three fellow students.
The group say the Palestinian Authority has detained fellow students based on their political affiliation.
